APPG on Islamic Finance Re-Constituted
The AGM for the APPG on Islamic Finance (APPGIF) took place at Westminster on Monday 3rd July 2017. The meeting was well attended and the following office holders were elected:
Chair – Naz Shah MP
Co-Chair – Lord Sheikh
Vice Chair – Baroness Bowes, Lord Gordon, Lord Hussain, Earl of Lindsay, Lord Newby, Wes Streeting MP and Stephen Timms MP
Secretary – Baroness Uddin
A further six parliamentarians agreed to become members of the APPGIF.
The purpose of the APPGIF is to:
– give the Islamic finance industry a voice in Parliament;
– address issues as they arise such as Sukuk issuance, inclusivity, regulation and taxation
– position the UK as the European hub of Islamic financial services
– play a wider role in promoting ethical finance.
The APPGIF will now begin planning a stakeholder meeting, bringing parliamentarians together with industry, academic and community leaders, for after the summer recess.
